DTC Required Gear: The Elevated Cot by Coolaroo

The elevated cot style is the healthiest dog bed design available for us to use. The cot sleeping area for the dog is raised off the floor creating desired air flow underneath the dog.  Dogs do not sweat and get too hot in our homes.  The worst for your dog is any type of foam mattress.  Dogs require air flow and breathability of material for quality resting.  The cot material is mesh, strong and stretchy.  In the event your dog wants a blanket for snuggling; choose simple fleece throw.  That the dog can push to the side if she gets to warm.

 Coolaroo is inexpensive and readily available on Amazon should your little buddy chew up the cot material. For dogs with a bed chewing history use your muzzle please! This will reduce the unwanted behavior and save you money.  The frame is made of lightweight black metal.  The cot is easy to wipe clean.  I use BioKleen Bac Out stain remover to clean my cots.

From a training stand point, the elevated cot style is desired because of the above function facts as well as the elevation height helps define physical space boundaries to puppies and adults alike that are learning spacial awareness.  Respect of boundaries is taught when you train your dog to stay on his bed for purpose of sleeping and lounging together in a single space.  Manners are gained as your dog learns to keep his feet and mouth to himself.  Chew time with a bone is all part of the benefits of placement training: stay on your bed.

All DTC Excelon Dogs are bed trained.  This valuable social training exercise is used indoors, outdoors, camping, traveling, hotel stays, family sleep over and at the park.  The beds are lightweight and portable.  I have a bed in each room and kennel for the trained dogs to use daily.  At the time of transition you will need your dog's bed set up in your home so we can use.
